Pilosophy and Style of Wine
In the new production plant Wolfgang Aigner can realize the typical Aigner style - one that tries to exploit the potential of the region. Aigner wines are, on the one hand, strong in aroma, but also fresh and fruity. This is a kind of contradiction, but it is balanced by fine components: fruity hints of apple, pear and quince meet a spicy touch of pepper and slate.
When fruity melodiousness meets strong acidity, the passing of the years means that the wines acquire complex tertiary aromas, like honey and caramel, the scent of damp grass and a touch of grated nuts.
Ripeness is crucial to the understanding of the philosophy of winemaker Aigner. Apart from that two further central ideas play an important role - tradition and power.
With this trio, Aigner unfolds his creative potential: the wines are not supposed to appear modern or even show superficial effects, no, they are supposed to represent the significance of the Kremser wines. A greatness that has not been developed in one night, but with care and diligence over nine generations
One traditional component of these wines is the ageing ability. The best wines remain fresh and vital for 15 to 20 years.
White wines with a ripening potential are a specialist market, they are not for the common palate. Wolfgang Aigner´s aim is to attract the connoisseur. As a connoisseur of symphonies and operas enjoys his music so a wine connoisseur, with some experience of the complex aromas of white wines, will enjoy the true greatness of a ripe Veltliner from the Sandgrube.
